Ayakashi – 02

I see Goku within Yuu…

Angry, Sanada returns home and then a man comes by to visit with a little girl. The man warns Sanada that he shouldn’t keep doing flashy things without “his” permission. Sanada doesn’t care and he asks who the girl is and his comrade informs him that she’s the new Ayakashi user. She likes the doll that Sanada has in his room and she takes it to play with it. She decides to leave and so the man has to follow her. Before he goes away, he tells Sanada to take his job more seriously. Once the pair disappear behind the curtains, Sanada narrows his eyes and the curtains are divided into two. Alone, Sanada begins to laugh. The next morning, Hime waits for Yuu at the entrance to go to school together. She greets him happily, but he doesn’t respond because he’s stuck in his own thoughts. He remembers what happened yesterday after the mysterious girl appeared and saved them. She somehow got rid of his knife without touching him, and Sanada then decided to just go home. Hime mentions about the event the other day, but Yuu tells her to forget that they ever saw Sanada. Hime then comments on how cool “that girl” was, but this only irritates Yuu even more. Once the two arrive at the school’s entrance, the girl from yesterday appears and greets them. Yuu doesn’t want to have anything to do with her so he takes Hime’s hand and the both of them head for class. Inside the room, Hime wonders if that girl is actually Yuu’s friend because she seems to know his name. Yuu also brings up the point that she knows Hime’s name too. Somehow, Hime comes up with the idea that the girl is Yuu’s girlfriend. When Yuu tells her that they shouldn’t have any buisness with her, she suddenly appears beside them and introduces herself as Yoake Eimu. She is the new transfer student, and she has her own reasons which she doesn’t bother to share. Homeroom starts and Yoake greets the entire class. When the teacher is thinking about where she should sit, something appears on the head of the student sitting next to Yuu. Straight away, Yuu knows that Yoake is doing something with her strange powers. Then the student stands up and says that he can’t see well, so he is seated up in the front while Yoake is able to sit right next to Yuu.

Class ends and Yuu questions Yoake about what she did to the guy in class. She doesn’t answer and has a tendency to stay silent most of the time. Nori sneaks up behind Yuu and tells him that the vice-principle would like to see him. In the conference, the principle tells Yuu that thanks to his part-time job, some student got picked on by Sanada and his gang. He then brings up the fact that two years ago it was Yuu’s fault that a girl named Izumi died. This really angers Yuu and with his fists clenching, a huge crack runs along the table. Yuu gets up with a dangerous vibe surrounding him and he tells the teacher that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Abruptly, Yuu laughs and says it was all a joke and that he will be careful next time. The teacher dismisses him and doesn’t seem to notice that Yuu is glaring at him from behind his bangs. Yuu goes in search for Yoake but Hime distracts him. She asks what the vice-principle had wanted and Yuu replies that it was just about what happened with Sanada. He questions her if she knows Yoake’s whereabouts, but she doesn’t. In class, Yuu asks Yoake where she had been during lunch-break. She says that curry udon is what they serve at the canteen. Suddenly, the window closest to Yoake cracks and a figure is seen standing on the school’s roof on the other side. Yoake simply ignores this and continues with her work, but Yuu is concerned.

Later that day, school finishes and Yuu is walking home alone. He gets frightened when objects around him keep slicing in half. It is obvious that Sanada is tailing him. Yuu runs and finds refuge in a small park where there are a lot of people in it. Still scared he looks around and then Yoake appears out of nowhere. Yuu sits on the bench and informs her that Sanada has been stalking him ever since yesterday. He then demands to know what the hell is going on, but Yoake tells him that it’s better if he didn’t know because if he knew, he would never be able to go back. Next two kids come and ask Yuu to play “hero” with them. Yuu refuses and reminds them that he already gave up playing that game. All of a sudden, Sanada is seen behind a playing fountain. With the Stanley knife in his hand, he gives it one swish in front of him and the fountain is halved. Yuu orders the kids to run away and Yoake tells Yuu that he should go as well. For a while, Yuu and Sanada battle with their Ayakashi. However, people start crowding around them, curious about what is happening. Sanada decides to interest the fight by chopping all the people in half. The kids that Yuu had told to flee earlier return and are easily terrified when they see that everyone is cut in to two pieces. Yuu goes to save the little boy and Yoake asks him why. She reminds him that he had abandoned the first-year student previously, and Yuu remembers the kid who got bullied by Sanada and his friends, and that he had cried for help from Yuu but Yuu didn’t help. Back in reality, Yuu doesn’t worry about it too much and continues to go save the child from Sanada. Sanada attacks but his assault barely misses. In seconds the other kid comes and sees the deathly sight. Instantly, she faints and Hime comes to care for her. Sanada smirks and seizes Hime around the neck and starts choking her. Straight away Yuu is angry and he begs that he let Hime go. Sanada refuses and tells him that in exchange he has to show him his Ayakashi, which is the identity of your power. Yuu still doesn’t know what’s going on and several slashes appear on him. Yoake continues to warn Sanada to not harm Hime or she will kill him. Just as Hime passes out, Yuu’s Ayakashi materializes from within him. Along his arm a new sort of white armour appears. His hair becomes white and grows long and his eyes are blue hue. In an instant he rescues Hime from Sanada’s grip and punches and knees Sanada until his whole body is crippled. On the ground and beat, Sanada sends for one last attack with his cutting Ayakashi, but Yuu grabs it and destroys it. Then Yuu returns to normal and he goes to see the unconscious Hime. Once more he asks Yoake what is going on and what Ayakashi are. He is in tears and she tells him that Ayakashi is power but also a curse. Yuu then talks about how many people died and Yoake is crying too. She goes to tell Yuu that it doesn’t matter how many people have died, and then Yuu asks her that if it doesn’t matter, why is she in tears? Yoake seems to not have noticed she was crying and questions herself: “Am I crying?” Akino is seen on top of a building with the man at the beginning with her. He asks her if she wants to go there but she doesn’t. Next the man is with the evil guy from the ending of the first episode. The evil leader asks what the man had felt seeing the Ayakashi emerge from Yuu. He admits that he truly doesn’t know and then asks what it was anyway. The evil leader says that it was Yuu’s desire.

Thoughts: Brilliant episode and definitely not disappointed. I really liked how the people were cut in two. I love bloody and gruesome anime, and this has just got to be one of them. I’m not too excited about the images and character designs though, but I must admit that Yoake just keeps getting cooler and cooler each time I see her. The battle between her and Sanada was kinda dull and boring. Not much action happened there. And when the people were dying, I wonder why she didn’t try to save him? I mean, she’s not total noob like Yuu here, is she? And he was trying to protect everyone even though he didn’t know what was going on. However, I don’t find much in Yuu. He can be quite scary at times and when he turned into his Ayakashi he was – how do I put it? – rather mental and insane? Anyway, nice episode with a lot of information about his past. So … he had something to do with the death of his childhood friend Izumi? Interesting, interesting. I’m so gonna watch the next episode. Really excited.
