Sasuke realizes that there is more to the Mangekyou Sharingan than just gaining control over the nine-tails. Itachi tells him that Uchiha Madara had a younger brother, and they were both equal in every way. They always competed against each other to who was the more powerful one. Soon enough, they were considered gifted by their family members. The brothers continued growing stronger until one day they both obtained the Mangekyou Sharingan. With their eyes, they took control over their clan and Madara, being the elder one, became the leader of the Uchiha. However, slowly Madara came to learn the sacrifice of having the Mangekyou Sharingan. Gradually, his world faded into darkness. Suddenly, when the power of the Mangekyou Sharingan took over him and Madara’s strain for a new source of light became overwhelming, he plucked his brother’s eyes out. His sight was restored and darkness never returned, but of course, there were much to sacrifice. Later on he was said to be the strongest shinobi of all, and he formed an alliance with the Senju clan. Together they created a new organization which is now known to be “Hidden Leaf”. However, Madara and the Senju leader, who was the First Hokage, began to quarrel over the new policies for their village. Even though Madara lost in battle over who was more rightful to control the village, he’s still alive. Thus, Madara formed a new organization known as “Akatsuki”, and he hides within its shadows. The nine-tails’ attack 16 years ago was also his doing, but he was stopped by the Fourth Hokage. Now, the only one who can overpower the current weak Madara is Itachi, so that is why Itachi kept Sasuke alive — to take his eyes. After all, you kill friends to obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan, and you murder siblings to gain its permanent power.
Thoughts: Yup, definitely NOT a disappointment, lols. OMG!! I LOVE NARUTO! Not the character — the whole thing. The Mangekyou Sharingan and everything just keeps getting more interesting — and now we finally know why Itachi kept Sasuke alive, eh? I mean, WOW. Hopefully next week will be about Pain’s identity. Although … I wouldn’t mind if Sasuke and Itachi actually start fighting either. Who will win? I have no idea, but I think most likely it would be Sasuke. If Itachi won, then Sasuke’s goal would be pointless and all, but then it would also be something he deserves. Then again … oh, I dunnoes who will win. If I had to choose, I’d rather Itachi. But then Sasuke should live too!

Itachi: Yes … the last, and most important piece of the puzzle.
Sasuke: Most important? What is it? Well? Tell me.
Itachi: … The story is one of our clan’s history. Long before our time. A story focused on Madara and his brother. His YOUNGER brother.
Itachi: The two of them were equals in every possible way, and were constantly competing to become the stronger one. They both awakened their Sharingan. Before long, they were acknowledged as being gifted even by their fellow clansmen. They continued to refine their abilities. And soon … BOTH of them obtained the power of the Mangekyou Sharingan. Such a feat had never been accomplished by any member of the clan. With their eyes, the brothers took control of the Uchiha, and the elder brother, Madara, became their leader. But suddenly, Madara began noticing a strange, frightening abnormality in himself. As I told you before … The more you use these eyes, the quicker their descent into an all-encompassing darkness. That is the inevitable fate of all who obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan. In exchange for their extraordinary power, the user ends up sealing away his own eyes away, forever robbing himself of the light. Madara did everything he could to free himself from the darkness, but his efforts were all in vain. He fell into despair. And finally, possessed by the Mangekyou, grasping for a new source of light …
